Washington: Republican Takes Recount

In a bit of news from the "News We Neglected to Report Earlier" file, in scenic Washington, Connecticut, the Republican challenger to Democrat First Selectman Richard Sears won by nine votes. Mark E. Lyons defeated Sears by seven votes on Election Night. The close tally caused the legally mandated recanvass of the 1316 ballots cast. The recanvass, held this morning at the Bryan Memorial Town Hall in Washington Depot, showed that Lyons won the election by the nine vote spread.

Accountability was the campaign issue de jour as several town projects had run significantly over-budget in recent years. Mr Lyons is scheduled to take office next week.
